General Information about Toy Dogs
All of the dogs listed below belong to the collection of dogs referred to as Toy Dogs. Dogs in the Toy Group were initially developed to ease the lifestyle and provide pleasure to rich people. These dogs were initially owned by the wealthy and were viewed by others as status symbols - a luxury item with little apparent purpose. Dogs in other groups had specific working roles and played a major part in providing food for the table and therefore justified the cost of their upkeep and care - these were the dogs which were commonly owned by the lower classes. Changes in the economy, lifestyles, living conditions and the environment brought the luxury and pleasure of owning a toy breed dog to everyone.
Although traditionally regarded as lap dogs many toy breeds come within this category, and will walk their owners off their feet. Many are splendid guards, keenly intelligent, affectionate, if somewhat possessive, and courageous to the point of stupidity. Examples: Pomeranian.
The original “Best of the Web” got its start in 1994 when Brandon Plewe, then a student at State University of New York, Buffalo, created a platform enabling the burgeoning online community to nominate and vote for best-of-class websites in a variety of categories. From the initial concept of Web Awards, Best of the Web transformed into a comprehensive directory categorizing content-rich, well designed websites. Whether the topic at hand is choosing a college, refinancing a mortgage or planning a party, BOTW is the first stop of many an Internet user.
Top 10 Toy Dog Breeds
The Toy Group includes most of the very small and miniature lap dogs and apartment-sized companion dog breeds. Toy dogs play a critical role in the lives of people that live alone and their presence can have beneficial effects on the health of the sick, the elderly and the housebound. Toys are popular companion dogs for people living in cities and adapt well to apartment life.
Small Dog Carriers
Generally, the soft-sided carriers are used for small dogs and make good Yorkie carriers or pet carriers for Chihuahuas. They certainly aren’t the type of carrier that you would use to put your pet in cargo for airline travel. Because your pet is more likely to fit snuggly next to you, this type of carrier ofen is less stressful for your pet, particularly if used for airline travel. The small size of a soft sided carrier will do a better job at softening any blows from jostling about during a trip. Because there is less room in the pet carrier, you should check for mesh ventilation at the sides or top of the pet carrier or a good peep opening. These small dog carriers are great for short trips to the veterinarian’s office or a trip to the local coffee shop with your pet in tow.
Look for good straps on your small dog carrier that are located around your neck or over your shoulder. These are as much for your pets comfort as yours. At the end of the day, you have to know your pet. Cramming a dog into a carrier it is trying to escape is not a good idea. Some pets are find in a backpack-style carrier or one that allows their head to stick out while others may try to break loose. Get your pet used to its carrier before embarking on a trip to see how it adjusts if it is not used to being carried. Some round trips indoors may do the trick.
Most all dogs will get along well with children if they are raised with them. However, some breeds have a protective streak in them and may naturally become aggressive towards children around meal time (although this should not be tolerated), or aggressive to strange children. They possibly will not see the children as being higher then themselves in the “pack order” and may try to dominate them.
Some dogs will put up with little children who pull their ears or poke them in the eyes, while others will not and map nip or bite back in defense.
